PRIVACY
THE SHORT VERSION
We collect nothing about you. There is no account of ours, no email address, no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting, and no third-party trackers.
The app talks to exactly two services, both run by Apple and both optional: your own iCloud, which quietly backs up your progress somewhere we cannot read, and Game Center, if you choose to use the friends leaderboard. Nothing the app sends anywhere is something we can see.
Everything below is the detail behind those two sentences.
WHAT WE COLLECT
Nothing.
Here is the full list of things Typewriter does not do. It does not ask you to create an account with us. It does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number. It does not use analytics of any kind, first-party or third-party. It does not collect crash reports or diagnostics. It does not use advertising identifiers, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. It does not contain any third-party advertising, marketing, or analytics software. It does not request your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera. It does not send notifications.
The puzzles are generated on your device from the date. Nothing is downloaded. The only things the app ever transmits are described in the next two sections — both go to Apple, neither reaches us, and the app works fine in airplane mode; you just won’t see the leaderboard or sync until you’re back online.
YOUR PROGRESS, AND YOUR ICLOUD
Typewriter saves your progress so the app is useful between sessions: which puzzles you have played and completed, your scores, times, and streaks, and your settings. This lives on your device.
If your phone is signed into iCloud, the app also keeps a small backup of this progress in your own iCloud storage, using Apple’s key-value store. This is what lets a new phone pick up your streaks where the old one left off. It is storage that belongs to you: it is tied to your Apple Account, we have no way to read it, and no server of ours is involved, because we do not have one. If you are signed out of iCloud, the app simply keeps everything locally, as before. Deleting the app removes the local copy; your iCloud data is under your control in Settings.
GAME CENTER
The friends leaderboard is built on Game Center, Apple’s game service. It is entirely optional: if you are not signed into Game Center, the leaderboard simply never appears, and the app behaves as if the feature did not exist.
If you are signed in and finish all four daily games, the app submits one number — that day’s point total — to a leaderboard hosted by Apple, where it is visible alongside your Game Center nickname to other players of this game, most usefully the friends you have added. Your friends list, your nickname, and your Game Center account are managed by Apple under Apple’s Game Center terms: apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/game-center. We never receive your friends list, your contacts, or your identity — the leaderboard screen you see in the app is Apple’s own, shown in place.
PURCHASES
Typewriter+ is sold through Apple’s App Store as a subscription. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card number, billing address, or any payment details — we only learn, anonymously, that a subscription exists so the app can unlock. You can manage or cancel the subscription any time in your device’s Settings under your Apple Account, and Restore Purchases inside the app brings an existing subscription to a new device.
THIS WEBSITE
This site is a simple set of pages. We add no analytics, no ads, no tracking scripts, and no cookies of our own. Like every website, the hosting infrastructure may keep standard access logs to run the service; we do not use them to identify anyone.
CHILDREN
Typewriter is a set of word and number puzzles suitable for anyone, and since we collect nothing from any user, we collect nothing from children either. Game Center accounts for children are created and controlled by their parents through Apple’s Family Sharing, under Apple’s rules.
YOUR RIGHTS
There is very little to exercise rights over, because we hold no personal data about you at all. Your puzzle history is on your device and in your own iCloud, both under your control: deleting the app removes the local copy, and your iCloud data can be managed from your device’s Settings. Leaderboard scores live in your Game Center account, which Apple lets you manage or delete. If you have any question about any of this, write to hello@typewriterstudios.com and a human will answer.
CHANGES
If we ever change what the app does with data, we will say so here in plain language, update the date at the top, and describe the change in the app’s release notes as well. This update is an example: version 2.0 added iCloud backup and the Game Center leaderboard, and this page was rewritten the day it shipped.
